The Young Masters of Girard-Perregaux in Mexico

The Swiss Haute Horologie Manufacture Girard-Perregaux has chosen Tequila, Jalisco, as the Mexican stop on its Young Masters World Tour. Tequila, home to the eponymous drink, was selected for its rich local heritage. It was the chosen venue for the presentation of a limited edition series of the Traveller WW.TC plus the Brand’s latest creations, to Mexican watch enthusiasts.

For over two centuries, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture has provided some of the most defining moments of Swiss Haute Horlogerie and continues to cultivate a resolutely innovative watchmaking tradition. The watchmakers behind the latest exceptional creations are inspired by their passion.  This is why Girard-Perregaux takes the training of its young talent to heart and is paying tribute to this group of exceptional artisans by presenting their savoir-faire all over the world, from New York to Beijing, via Miami, Paris or the Aletsch Glacier in the Swiss Alps.

Now it is Mexico’s turn to welcome these new bright watchmakers, who have set up their workbenches in the middle of the agave fields, on the World Heritage Sites list, or at the heart of Tequila’s most famous distilleries. This is a dream opportunity for Mexican amateurs to discover the secrets of the art of watchmaking, and the latest creations of Girard-Perregaux, including a special series of the Traveller WW.TC Chronograph and the revolutionary Constant Escapement L.M., winner of the Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève in 2013.

Mexico and Girard-Perregaux have had a special relationship since the 19th century, when former Mexican president Porfirio Diaz owned the most famous of the Tourbillons with Three Gold Bridges. It was the winner of the gold medal at The Paris Exposition Universelle in 1889 and was known as “La Esmeralda” owing the nickname to the store owned by Mexican Brand agents Mr. Hauser and Mr. Zivy.

This project, named “The New Face of Tradition,” introduces the Girard-Perregaux Young Masters on their world tour, and is pictured in a book presented at Baselworld 2014. The digital copy can be accessed on www.girard-perregaux.com.
