Spreading the Love At Ultra
By the time you read this, Ultra 2019 will be a thing of the past. Between now and the next iteration of this two-day long music festival, Ultra will live on plastered across innumerable Instagram feeds, Facebook galleries and for a select few, their skin.
Maxime Plescia-Büchi (Sang Bleu)
World famous tattoo artist and Hublot ambassador, Maxime Plescia-Büchi, came down to Singapore specially for Ultra. Setting aside time to ink up a select lucky few at our Marina Bay Sands Hublot Boutique, just a stone’s throw from Ultra Singapore. Already well known in the tattooing community, Maxime is best known by watch collectors for his partnership with Hublot, releasing the Sang Bleu I and the Sang Bleu II. Unveiling the second variant to critical acclaim at Baselworld this year.
It’s a fitting collaboration, which surprisingly hasn’t been explored in the past by other watchmakers. Surprising, considering the similarities between both watchmaking and tattooing. Whereas tattoos are inked into your skin, watches are up against your skin. There’s an intimacy to both that perhaps goes some way towards explaining the heated debates that often pop up around the web. But then again, when you spend so much 1-on-1 time with either tattoos or watches, of course, your interpretation of what it means to you will differ to what it means to someone else.
Also in attendance was Manfred Lim (better known as MYRNE), the Singaporean-based DJ and self-proclaimed “runaway sonic architect” who has just capped off a phenomenal year, being the first Singaporean DJ to perform at both Tomorrowland and Ultra Miami in 2018. At Ultra Singapore MYRNE blew the roof off with his beats (last year there wasn’t a roof to blow off!) while wearing the Hublot Big Bang Unico Titanium on the same arm as his new tattoo, courtesy of Maxime. Uniting two individuals with uniquely different skill sets, yet both sharing a dedication to their craft and for their love of Hublot.
