THE TRILOBE TRENTE-DEUX SECRET EDITION: A MOMENT IN THE COSMOS

There is a quiet radicalism to Trilobe’s latest creation at Watches and Wonders 2026. Rather than marking time in the conventional sense, the Trilobe Trente-Deux Secret Edition turns it inward, transforming a singular, personal instant into a permanent celestial imprint.

At its core lies an idea that is both poetic and exacting. Each dial is conceived as a star map, recreating the night sky at a chosen date, time, and location. This is not an impressionistic flourish but a calculated rendering, built on astronomical data that maps more than 1,600 constellations with remarkable precision. The wearer is therefore not simply choosing a design, but anchoring a memory in the exact alignment of the heavens.

In doing so, Trilobe shifts the focus of watchmaking from measurement to meaning. The dial becomes a canvas for memory, one that quietly captures a fleeting instant and renders it permanent. It is an approach that feels both deeply personal and conceptually bold, inviting the wearer to reflect not on the passage of time, but on a moment worth preserving.

Such ambition requires more than aesthetic sensibility. The positions of each star are determined using algorithms derived from the work of Belgian astronomer Jean Meeus, accounting for the Earth’s orbit and axial tilt so that the sky appears exactly as it did at that moment in history. It is a rare instance where astronomical rigour and mechanical watchmaking intersect so directly, lending the piece an intellectual depth that underpins its emotional appeal.

The complexity lies not only in mapping the stars, but in translating that data into a form that can be reproduced on a dial with absolute fidelity. Each celestial coordinate must be interpreted, scaled and positioned with precision, ensuring that the resulting composition remains both accurate and harmonious. This synthesis of science and design reflects Trilobe’s broader philosophy, where innovation is not pursued for its own sake, but as a means of enriching the narrative behind each creation.

Crafting the Celestial Dial

Yet the Trente-Deux Secret Edition is not defined by calculation alone. Its execution is deeply rooted in craft. Each constellation is first engraved, then transferred onto the dial by pad printing, with powdered silver ink applied in successive micro-layers. This gradual process allows each star to emerge with a precise balance of brilliance and density, creating a composition that feels both natural and meticulously controlled.

The dial gains depth through layers of lacquer, giving the impression that the stars are suspended rather than merely applied. Produced within a clean room environment, the process demands absolute precision, ensuring clarity and consistency while preserving the delicacy of the celestial scene. The result is a surface that captures not only the exactness of the sky, but also its quiet, atmospheric presence.

A Distinct Way of Reading Time

Time itself is presented in a manner that remains distinctly Trilobe. Rather than traditional hands, three rotating rings indicate the hours, minutes and seconds, all arranged on the same plane and read against fixed pointers. This patented system reinforces the Maison’s departure from convention, creating a display that feels at once intuitive and unfamiliar. In the context of the Secret Edition, it adds a further layer of meaning, as the continuous motion of the rings unfolds across a dial that captures a moment otherwise held still.

Driving this display is the X-Nihilo calibre, Trilobe’s in-house movement, designed and assembled in Paris. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a 42-power reserve, it reflects a balance between precision and everyday practicality. Its relatively slim construction, measuring 7 mm in thickness, contributes to the watch's overall proportions, allowing the case to maintain a refined profile on the wrist.

Form, Material, and Proportion

The case, measuring 39.5 mm in diameter and just over 10 mm in thickness, is available in either 316L steel or 18-carat rose gold. Its surfaces alternate between satin-brushed, mirror-polished and microblasted finishes, while a fluted bezel introduces texture and visual depth. Sapphire crystals on both sides, treated to reduce reflection, enhance the clarity of the dial and its layered construction.

Two distinct interpretations shape the character of the creations. The steel version, paired with an integrated bracelet, emphasises continuity and structure, seamlessly extending the case's lines across the wrist. The rose gold variant is matched with a rubber strap whose tone complements the dial, offering a more relaxed yet equally considered aesthetic. The strap itself is engineered in a single moulding process to ensure durability and comfort, while maintaining a cohesive relationship with the case through aligned finishes and proportions.

A Private Expression of Time

Despite its technical complexity, the watch remains discreet in its expression. Its water resistance of 50 metres and robust construction make it suited to daily wear, yet its true significance lies beneath the surface. Each example carries a private narrative, one that is not immediately visible to others but remains ever-present to its wearer.

This is where Trilobe’s proposition becomes most compelling. The Trente-Deux Secret Edition does not seek to overwhelm with spectacle. Instead, it offers a more introspective form of watchmaking, where innovation serves memory rather than display. Time is not merely indicated here; it is intertwined with a moment chosen, preserved and revisited through the quiet constancy of the stars.
