Expanding The Ladies’ Nautilus Collection
Expanding The Nautilus Collection
When Patek Phillipe releases a new model, it is always exciting. When that model is the Nautilus, it is even more so. The Nautilus is one of the brand’s most highly coveted designs. Enthusiasts are willing to wait up to a decade to get their hands on a brand new model for their collections, and Nautilus prices soar in the pre-owned market. Patek Philippe is blissfully aware of the demand for the iconic model, and at Baselworld 2019, they continue to tantalise us with six new releases, five of them being ladies’ variations. This year, the brand has given us a fresh take on the Reference 7118, with two in rose gold and three in stainless steel.
Ladies’ Nautilus Rose Gold, Reference 7118/1R
The latest rose gold models in the ladies’ Nautilus line up are welcome additions to the collection. For the first time, we see ladies’ variants of the beloved, sporty-chic model without diamond accents. Instead, the Reference 7118/1R embodies the spirit of the original Nautilus with a crisp, clean, yet totally one-of-a-kind design, all on a smaller scale.
Both colourways of the rose gold Nautilus feature a modest 35.2mm case measuring 8.62mm thick. Inside, the Reference 7118/1R houses one of the brand’s old standbys: the calibre 324 SC automatic movement. You can see it in all its glory through the model’s sapphire caseback. In addition, the rose gold versions get some subtle feminine touches. One of the hallmarks of the Nautilus is the distinctive horizontal grooves or stripes on the dial. With the Reference 7118/1R, Patek Philippe gives us a unique spin on the original design, replacing the straight lines with waves.
There are also two different colour options to suit any woman’s personal taste: one with a monochromatic rose gold dial and one with a contrasting opaline dial. Each iteration of the model is complete with the classic integrated bracelet design, which combines polished and satin finishes just like the case and bezel. It is also fitted with a brand new fold-over clasp featuring an integrated adjustment system.
Ladies’ Nautilus Stainless Steel, Reference 7118/1200A
In addition to the rose gold versions, Patek Philippe presents three new stainless steel iterations of the ladies’ Nautilus with the Reference 7118/1200A.
Though the brand’s latest stainless steel additions to the Nautilus line continue to feature a gem set bezel, Patek Philippe has given them a few updates. First, each variation of the Reference 7118/1200A features a slightly larger diameter. They measure 35.2mm, like the latest rose gold iterations, as opposed to 33.6mm, like previous 7118 models.
Patek Philippe also ups the ante with a diverse range of new dial colours: one in blue opaline, one in silver opaline, and one in a gradiant grey opaline that fades to black at the periphery. Similar to the rose gold models, the new stainless steel variants come equipped with Patek Philippe’s integrated bracelet design. It features an all-new fold over clasp and adjustment system, which provides the wearer with two to four millimetres of extra bracelet length for increased customization and comfort.
Closing Thoughts
As if the Nautilus collection could not get any better, Patek Philippe has found a way to further increase the appeal of its flagship line. With a staggering five new ladies’ options to suit any unique taste and style, the Nautilus is truly a watch every woman. The brand has taken care to make the ladies’ Nautilus models distinctly feminine without compromising the beauty and charm of the original design. With understated elements like the curved lines of the dial, the brand incorporates a softness into an already exquisite design and proves you do not need diamonds to add a feminine touch.
