Diving In – New Panerai Submersible Models

Panerai have an interesting history that’s intertwined with the elite divers of the Italian Navy. To kick 2019 off right, the brand has focused on their Submersible line, and they are doing it with the past and present in mind.

For the past, they offer the Panerai Submersible Marina Militare 47mm, a reference to Panerai’s 1965 “L’Egiziano” which was used by dive teams within the Italian Navy. For the present, we have the Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition 47mm in homage to French freediver Guillaume Néry who is well known for freediving into the world’s largest bluewater sinkhole.

Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition – 47mm

Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition

The titanium Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition is a colourful 47mm influenced by the blues and greens of the ocean. The black DLC/titanium is limited to just 15 pieces and holds Panerai’s in-house P.9100 flyback chronograph movement. Water resistant to 300m the stunning blue/black gradient dial is explicitly influenced by the waters of Polynesia where Néry currently lives.

If you are one of the 15 buyers of the limited edition, you will be able to free-dive with Guillaume Néry himself in Moorea, French Polynesia. To celebrate Nery’s achievements, the caseback lists his record constant weight freedive to 126 meters, so if you are a Néry fan, this watch is the ultimate way to show it.

Panerai Submersible Marina Militare

Constructed from Panerai’s Carbotech composite material, the 47mm Submersible Marina Militare features green coloring (slightly different to the standard model with a white lume) and a camouflage dial and carbon-based case limited to 33 pieces.

The watch features the P.9010 automatic movement and a case back made from titanium and matching rubber strap. While the watch is significant on the wrist, the carbon makes it very light and perfect for diving. Each purchase also comes with a training experience with Italy’s elite commando diving force, the Comando Subaquei Ed Incursori.

The Kings of Diving

Both of these releases situate Panerai as one of the leaders in luxury dive watches. After all, they have been involved in the diving world for a long time, and they are reminding us of this and their significant history. So why not start the year with two of the most functional watches that also fly the flag for the power of minimalist design, coupled with a once in a lifetime experience to test out the durability of the pieces? Perfect.
