With a rich marine heritage of 169 years, Ulysse Nardin continues its proud legacy and strong foothold in mechanical timekeepers today. Being a forward leader amongst watch industry’s finest, Ulysse Nardin is admired for its watchmaking innovations. The following summary of Ulysse Nardin 2015 novelties highlights provides an insight on the standout features and why these watches are the ones to look out for this year.
Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon
A new technical breakthrough and the most anticipated novelty highlight of Ulysse Nardin!
This new model incorporates the constant Ulysse Anchor Escapement – the result of 8 years of research and development. Made entirely of Silicium, the Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon ensures a greater chronometric accuracy, aided by these technical features: frictionless pallet fork, constant-force escapement in the escape wheel and flat springs, and a tourbillon cage – culminating in the peak of traditional expertise. The Ulysse Nardin Tourbillon bears a clean, classical look with its in-house Grand Feu Enamel art dial created by Donzé Cadrans, a dial-making specialist company owned by Ulysse Nardin. Breaking away from traditional watchmaking approach, the Ulysse Nardin Tourbillon unifies modern technological advancements with longstanding craftsmanship.
Limited edition to 18 pieces each in rose gold and white gold.
FreakLab
The Freak was born over a decade ago, out of determination to push the boundaries of watchmaking. Ulysse Nardin is one of the earliest manufactures to use Silicium in its movement – charting new grounds in watchmaking innovation. It still looks modernist today, even amongst the crop of avant-garde design watches of present day. The new FreakLab is easily legible, and is equipped with a date function for the first time.
The entire floating upper bridge has been completely redesigned. The gear train has been made smaller, making it easier to read the hours. This masterpiece also incorporates the UlyChoc safety system, a new generation of shock absorbers entirely designed, developed and produced in-house. The UlyChoc system avoids forces of play and friction, enabling the balance staff to be perfectly re-centered in the event of an impact. Today, it is worth noting that collectors of the Freak will welcome the FreakLab as a nouveau progression of the existing Freaks.
Hourstriker Oil Pump
Ulysse Nardin is one of the earliest manufacturers to lead the rebirth of the striking mechanism, and today amongst the rare watchmakers to use Jaquemarts.
The latest addition is the Hourstriker Oil Pump, a tribute to industry. In this masterpiece, the timekeepers are brought to life by the moving arms of the oil pumps which are Jaquemarts, as well as the highly specialised craft of engraved enamel art. These animated figures move up and down in concert with the sound of a gong striking the hours, bringing both visual and sonic delight to the wearer.
Classico Kruzenschtern
The Classico Collection limited-edition enamel cloisonné timepieces have become an annual tradition that pays homage to Ulysse Nardin’s marine roots. This year’s leading character is the German warship named the Kruzenschtern after a 19th century Baltic German explorer in the Russian service. Collectors of the Classico limited-edition dial are mesmerized by the ship’s real-time appearance through the intensely intricate enamel cloisonne technique. Because of the laborious technique handcrafted by master artisans, every cloisonné dial is unique, and requires 50 hours of artisan expertise and 26 processes to complete. Art lovers with an eye on detail will adore this timepiece, and wear it as a piece of art on their wrist.
Limited edition to 30 pieces each in white gold and rose gold.
