IWC Schaffhausen Celebrates Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Victory
After almost 72,000 kilometres, IWC-sponsored Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR), led by skipper and two-time Olympic silver medallist Ian Walker, has emerged as the victor in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014–15.
As Race Partner and Official Timekeeper, the Swiss watch manufacturer celebrated the overall victory with ADOR at the final destination in Gothenburg, Sweden, and also awarded the team the IWC 24-Hour Speed Record Challenge prize. Moreover, ADOR won the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 In-Port Race Series, while crew photographer Matt Knighton received the Inmarsat Onboard Reporter Award for his journalist work during the race.
The sailing race, which is said to be the toughest in the world, took the teams on a 9-month, 72,000-kilometre journey to seven continents, where they made stopovers in Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajaí (Brazil), Newport (USA), Lisbon (Portugal), Lorient (France) and a pit stop in The Hague (The Netherlands) before finishing in Gothenburg.
The Hour Glass would like to congratulate Ian Walker in the IWC-sponsored ADOR.
