At Watches and Wonders 2026 in Geneva,, Switzerland, TAG Heuer presented a compelling expression of its enduring relationship with the chronograph. This year’s novelties are not framed as a departure, but rather as a continuation of a long-held pursuit: to refine, reinterpret, and ultimately advance a complication that has defined the Maison for more than a century. Two distinct, yet interconnected releases anchor this narrative: the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph introduces a thoughtful evolution of a recognised icon, while the TAG Heuer Monaco Evergraph ventures into new mechanical territory, offering a fresh perspective on how a chronograph can function and feel.

Few names are as closely tied to the chronograph as TAG Heuer. Since its founding in 1860, the Maison has pursued precision through a series of technical milestones, from early innovations in oscillating pinions to the Mikrograph, capable of measuring 1/100th of a second. This commitment has shaped not only the brand’s identity but also its approach to contemporary watchmaking. The Monaco, introduced in 1969, remains one of the most recognisable expressions of this legacy. As the first square, water-resistant automatic chronograph, it challenged conventions and established a design language that continues to resonate today.

The Monaco Chronograph: A Refined Icon

Three expressions of the Monaco shaped by its 1969 origins and reimagined through contemporary design and in-house movements

The latest TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph builds on this heritage with a measured and considered redesign. Drawing inspiration from the original reference 1133, the new case introduces more fluid lines and improved ergonomics, offering a more natural presence on the wrist while retaining the unmistakable square silhouette .

Subtle refinements define the piece as its dial has been carefully reworked for clarity, with balanced proportions and enhanced legibility. The interplay of finishes across the dial and subdials introduces depth without overwhelming the design. The signature crown positioned on the left side remains, a quiet nod to the original Calibre 11 configuration.

A reinterpretation rooted in the original 1969 design, now elevated with improved ergonomics and the in-house Calibre TH20-11

At the core of the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph lies the in-house Calibre TH20-11. With an 80-hour power reserve and a bi-compax layout, the movement reflects a contemporary approach while preserving the spirit of its predecessor. It is a continuation rather than a reinvention, offering reliability and familiarity in equal measure.

The result is a Monaco that feels both grounded and forward-looking. It honours its origins while adapting to modern expectations of comfort and performance.

The Monaco Evergraph: A New Mechanical Language

Five years in the making, the Evergraph introduces a flexible chronograph architecture designed for lasting consistency and refined actuation

If the Monaco Chronograph refines, the Monaco Evergraph reimagines.

Developed over a period of five years, the Evergraph introduces an entirely new chronograph architecture through the Calibre TH80-00. At its centre is a compliant mechanism that replaces traditional levers and springs with flexible bistable components. This reconfiguration transforms the way the chronograph operates, delivering a consistent and precise tactile response with each activation.

The innovation is not merely conceptual. Produced using high-precision LIGA technology, these components are engineered for durability and long-term stability. The movement also incorporates a TH-Carbonspring oscillator, offering resistance to magnetic fields and supporting a high-frequency performance of 5 Hz, alongside a 70-hour power reserve and chronometer certification .

In terms of its visual appeal, the Evergraph has embraced its new mechanical identity. The open-worked dial reveals the movement from the front, creating a sense of transparency and depth. Bridges, counters, and architectural elements appear suspended within the case, giving the watch a distinct visual rhythm.

The case itself has been reworked with a focus on ergonomics, while retaining the defining characteristics of the Monaco. Sweeping lines and carefully considered proportions lend a sense of balance, while details such as elongated pushers and the left-positioned crown maintain continuity with the past .

A Measured Future

At Watches and Wonders 2026, TAG Heuer presents a cohesive vision of its chronograph, one that bridges heritage and modernity with clarity and intent. Together, these two releases articulate a clear direction. TAG Heuer is not simply revisiting its past, but using it as a foundation for further exploration.

The Monaco Chronograph demonstrates how an icon can be refined without losing its essence. The Monaco Evergraph, by contrast, signals a willingness to question established norms and to rethink the very mechanics of time measurement. Both approaches are rooted in the same philosophy. Innovation is not pursued for its own sake, but as a means to enhance function, experience, and design.

In this context, the latest releases do not stand apart from the past. They extend it, offering a glimpse into how the chronograph may continue to evolve in the years ahead.
