Hublot Watches & How To Wear Them
Location: Sydney CBD
Towards the end of 2019, we pulled together a few of our favourite Hublot’s, hit the streets of Sydney and shot mechanical watches on analog film. In our first of 3 Hublot Style Guides (click here for part 2 & here for part 3) we follow Sam from dawn to dusk, imagining the sort of watches we’d wear in each location. The days shoot was pulled off by photographer @NicholasGascoine, technician @you_john, stylist @danielle_soglimbene, hair & makeup artist @nishavanberkelmakeup & model @sam_m_armstrong. Enjoy.
Look 1
Big Bang Unico Titanium White 42mm (Ref: 441.NE.2010.RW)
With a white rubber strap and a 42mm titanium case, the Big Bang Unico Titanium is one of the most versatile watches in the collection. Both the titanium and King Gold variants are also available with diamond-set bezels or with a full pavé diamond case. And with a power reserve of 72 hours they’ll all easily outpace the weekend.
Look 2
Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Blue Sapphire (Ref: 405.JL.0120.RT)
Hublot has been hugely successful in developing colourful sapphire-cased watches over the years, from reds to yellows to blues. The Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Blue Sapphire has a 45mm polished blue sapphire crystal case and bezel. It houses the HUB1242 UNICO manufacture movement, visible from all angles, and has a matching blue transparent structured lined strap.
Look 3
Classic Fusion Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Orlinski Black Magic (Ref: 505.CI.1170.RX.ORL19)
Apart from pushing material science, Hublot’s built a reputation working with acclaimed artists. Since partnering with the brand, Richard Orlinski has had an indelible impact on Hublot, creating a range of unique and popular watches. His iconic geometric aesthetic is recognisable from any angle; it’s watchmaking art meets contemporary art.
Look 4
Spirit of Big Bang Yellow Sapphire (Ref: 641.JY.0190.RT)
Also in sapphire, the Spirit of Big Bang Yellow Sapphire features a 42mm polished yellow sapphire crystal and bezel. Inside there’s the HUB4700 self-winding skeleton movement with chronograph, a useful complication for timing anything from driving to running. It has a power reserve of 50 hours, is water resistant to 50 metres and displays a yellow framed date window at the 4:30 position.
Look 5
Spirit of Big Bang Blue Sapphire (Ref: 641.JL.0190.RT)
Also in blue. The Spirit of Big Bang Blue Sapphire has a matching blue sapphire case and blue strap. And features a black-plated titanium deployant buckle clasp, giving off a satisfying ‘click’ when pressed shut. The barrel-shaped case, a distinguishing characteristic of the Spirit of Big Bang collection, wraps around the wrist. Resulting is a watch that is equal parts complicated and comfortable.
Look 6
Big Bang Unico King Gold White 42mm (Ref: 441.OE.2010.RW)
Warmer than the titanium variant, the Big Bang Unico King Gold White 42mm has a satin-finished and polished 18K King Gold case. King Gold is an exclusive colour that is even redder than the traditional 18K Gold 5N. Developed by Hublot’s advanced metallurgy and materials laboratory in Nyon, King Gold is but one of the many innovations Hublot has made in the field of material science.
Look 7
Classic Fusion Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Orlinski Black Magic (Ref: 505.CI.1170.RX.ORL19)
“There is a real dynamic of sharing that has been established at Hublot. It is a modern brand with a truly innovative spirit… What brings it all together is our desire to challenge convention.” says Richard Orlinski. The Classic Fusion Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days Orlinski Black Magic houses the visible HUB6021 manufacture manual-winding power reserve skeleton tourbillon movement, wrapped up in an Orlinski-designed faceted micro blasted black ceramic case.
Look 8
Big Bang Unico Golf (Ref: 416.YS.1120.VR)
Made for golf enthusiasts, the Big Bang Unico Golf works just as well off the course as a stylish timepiece. The 358-component watch can track the hole number, number of shots per hole and course total. It’s a unique complication that highlights the dynamism of the brand; the ability to continually pivot and innovate.
Look 9
Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski Red Ceramic (Ref: 525.CF.0130.RX.ORL19)
And to wrap things up, the Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski Red Ceramic. Bringing together complicated watchmaking, unique design born of cross-industry partnerships and advanced materials (patented vivid red ceramic); the Red Ceramic Aerofusion neatly sums up everything Hublot excels at. It’s also a fitting colour considering Orlinski’s very first ‘Born Wild’ sculpture back in 2004 was the Crocodile which featured a vivid and powerful shade of red, a colour now synonymous with his work.
