Black Bay Dark at the Rugby Sevens

Tudor’s no slouch when it comes to making watches that can take a beating. Just look at some of their old advertisements: “Jarred beyond belief”, “merciless vibration”….it’s not the sort of language you find on your typical watch advertisements.

Now while rivetting bolts on a skyscraper or taking a 1000 mile merciless journey isn’t how I typically spend the weekend, going to the Rugby is something I can get around. Having watched the All Blacks at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Singapore over the weekend, it becomes pretty clear why Tudor chose the iconic team to partner up and feature as one of their ambassadors.

Tudor and the Black Bay Dark are a lot like the All Blacks, in that they both go about doing what they are famous for – making watches and playing rugby – without making much of a fuss. Tudor watches and the All Blacks are rugged but not brutish. Because behind the rock-solid exterior lies a highly choreographed dance.

The Black Bay Dark was the first Black Bay to include an in-house Manufacture movement, calibre MT5602, it is COSC-certified and has a power reserve of 70 hours. A winning combination when paired with the blacked-out PVD-coated aesthetic of the Black Bay Dark. As for the All Blacks themselves, they are not only the most successful international rugby teams of all time but also one of the most successful and iconic teams in the world of sport, with a Test win rate of 77%

Despite being a relatively small country at 4.5 million people, New Zealand has a massive talent pool of some 150K rugby players to tap into, with many more supporters keeping the passion alive on the sidelines. At times, over the weekend, it almost felt like most of them had made the journey up from the long white cloud (New Zealand) to the little red dot (Singapore) just to see their team compete.

Whether you’re a fan of the All Blacks or not (we won’t judge!) you’re more than welcome to stop by any of our boutiques and have a chat about Tudor watches. We actually opened a Tudor Studio Boutique (the first of its kind) last year at TANGS, Tang Plaza, stocking a wide range of Tudor watches from the more dressy 1926 collection to the more sporty Black Bay collection.
