The Hour Glass Opens The Ginza Salon: A Refined Space of Tradition and Innovation
The Hour Glass opens the Ginza Salon, a new space that follows in the footsteps of The Hour Glass Ginza boutique, which opened in 2002. This newly introduced Ginza Salon offers a uniquely Japanese experience, paying homage to the culture and heritage of its location and blending contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship.
Situated on the eighth floor of the HULIC & New GINZA NAMIKI6 building in Tokyo’s Chūō district, The Hour Glass Ginza Salon seamlessly blends contemporary watch culture with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Upon entering, clients are welcomed into a serene and subtly lit hall, lined with andesite—a stone historically used in the walls of Edo Castle. This thoughtful design choice embodies The Hour Glass’s dedication to crafting unique and immersive retail experiences.
Upon stepping off the elevator, visitors are greeted by a serene entrance featuring the traditional Japanese ‘Naguri’ technique, which enhances the wall’s texture with unique carving marks. The soft sound of water droplets from a tsukubai, a traditional water basin, adds an element of tranquillity, projecting ever-changing reflections onto the wall that create a dynamic interplay of light and water.
Inside the Salon, a spacious and thoughtfully curated environment awaits, featuring natural light, white birch cherry wood, and plaster finishes. The Salon houses a carefully curated selection of watches from renowned global brands and independent artisans, including Rexhep Rexhepi, J.C. Biver, and URWERK. This thoughtfully designed space reflects The Hour Glass’s dedication to promoting watch culture and elevating the art of horology.
A Space of Artistry and Heritage
The main salon floor captures a uniquely Japanese aesthetic, harmonizing traditional elements with high-end horological craftsmanship. Within this refined setting, every detail, from the seamless integration of displays to the materials used, has been carefully considered to provide a cohesive experience. The Salon also features two private rooms, each designed to offer a distinct ambiance. Notably, one room is highlighted by a rare Japanese horse chestnut table with a unique chijimi moku grain, reflecting the intersection of natural artistry and meticulous craftsmanship.
A Place to Pause and Reflect
Guests are welcome to unwind in a comfortable seating area featuring plush upholstery and custom artwork, including a Suibokuga ink painting of a dragon that pays homage to regional folklore. A curated collection of fine liquors, including premium Japanese whisky and select international spirits, elevates the experience for guests. The Salon’s bar area, featuring a three-metre-long fir wood counter sourced from Shikoku beckons clients to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
A Curated Experience for Connoisseurs
The Hour Glass Ginza Salon epitomizes the fusion of Japanese style and horological excellence, offering an experience that resonates with both local clients and international visitors. With a commitment to providing an engaging and contemplative environment, The Hour Glass Ginza Salon invites watch enthusiasts to explore a curated selection of the finest horological creations in a setting that is both inspiring and uniquely connected to its cultural roots.
