Synonymous with innovation, Hublot continues to disrupt all preconceived notions of what is possible. Its latest experiment? The new Square Bang Unico collection with a clear sapphire dial that shows a round movement harmoniously integrated within a square case.
For most watchmakers, that juxtaposition is unthinkable, a snub to the traditional visual language of watches in which the inner form typically mirrors the outer. In Hublot’s case, the unconventional is the heart of the display.
To celebrate the first square case by Hublot and the arrival of the Square Bang Unico in Malaysia, a campaign was created with five stars who shine brightly on silver screens and digital screens alike. Youtube personalities Chang Yong and Wilbur Ng, as well as actors Awal Ashaari, Dini Schatzmann, and Hisyam Hamid embody the mastery of craft, spirit of openness and joy in constant reinvention that define the new collection.
In the campaign, they effortlessly evoke the daring and assertive qualities of the Square Bang Unico. Sharp black ensembles against a black-and-white background supply style and striking contrast while still ensuring all eyes are drawn to the models on their wrists.
The five Square Bang Unico timepieces are forged from solid titanium, satin-finished King Gold, a blend of titanium and ceramic, King Gold and ceramic, and, last but not least, all-black ceramic released in a limited edition of 250 pieces. Thrumming inside the 42mm squared cases is the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement, an automatic chronograph with a 72-hour power reserve.
Tributes to the Spirit of Big Bang series which inspired this collection can be seen in the sandwich construction of the dial, the six functional screws identically placed on the bezel, the softened “ears” that protect the case sides and the textured rubber straps that can be swapped out and easily fastened on with the One Click system.
Although it wears some of the iconic codes of Hublot’s Big Bang flagship, the Square Bang Unico bears a distinct identity that goes beyond its angular silhouette. This isn’t a question of design, but one of attitude. The new collection and the campaign that commemorates its Malaysian debut affirm that timepieces as provocative as these can only be pulled off with utmost confidence and poise.
