Family Connection

Ever since Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded the L.U.C Manufacture in 1860, the Chopard name has been synonymous with refined luxury, elegance and exceptional diamond-setting. It’s something we’re all reminded of when the red carpet is rolled out for the annual Cannes Film Festival.

In an industry dominated by conglomerates, the Swiss-based Maison is one of the last fully independent family-owned watchmakers. Led by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and his sister Caroline Scheufele since the 1980s, Chopard has gone from strength to strength. They’ve been instrumental in, amongst other things, championing the use of ethically sourced precious metals and creating the Foundation Quality Fluerier. Best of all, there’s a real sense of family and an awareness to act responsibly that runs throughout the organisation.

It, therefore, gives us great pleasure in announcing our next Commemorative Edition watch. This time, as you would have guessed by now, we’ve partnered with Chopard to release a special Happy Sport Ladies Automatic watch. Limited to 50 watches, each individually numbered.

Happy Since 1993

First launched in 1993, the Happy Sport was an immediate hit. Enchanting lovers of watches and jewellery alike with its spinning diamonds. Over the years Chopard has expanded the collection to include different dials, cases and strap combinations. Turning it into a fully-fledged collection. Rarely though does Chopard deviate from the iconic dancing diamonds.

The Hour Glass Commemorative Edition Happy Sport stands apart from the rest of the watches in the collection. Imbued with five dreamlike and playful moving elements, consisting of a laughing a rose gold laughing sun and diamond-set moon and stars; it is most reminiscent of the Blue Dial Happy Stars (Ref. 278559-3011). With its starry sky set against a blue dial backdrop, it pays tribute to Mark’s Square Clock Tower in the heart of Venice.

Unlike the decidedly ‘cool’ aesthetic of the white gold and blue strap Happy Stars watch, The Hour Glass Commemorative Edition is warm and cheerful. Designed to channel the radiance of both the equatorial sun and the joie de vivre we associate the Swiss Maison with. Rose gold spinning diamonds and moon flank a renaissance-esque laughing sun are seen joyfully dancing above a finely guilloched mother-of-pearl dial, complementing the summery vibrance of the polished red alligator leather strap.

Interestingly enough, when it was introduced, the Happy Sport was the first to combine Stainless Steel and Diamonds. This was – and continues to be the case today – indicative of a new breed of watches. Watches designed for the modern professional, seamlessly combining high jewellery with day-to-day practicality.

Automatic Calibre SW300 displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date (located at 4 o’clock position). The 25-jewel movement is visible on the back through a sapphire crystal display window and features an array of decorative finishes. Water-resistant to 30 metres and comes with a power reserve of up to 42 hours.
