Jaeger-LeCoultre Reinvents the Reverso at Watches and Wonders 2025
02 Apr 2025 · 12 min read

In the world of watches, few forms are as instantly recognisable or as steeped in narrative as the Reverso. For 2025, Jaeger-LeCoultre draws deeply from its storied past to unveil The 1931 Polo Club—an immersive concept that not only honours the watch’s polo origins but boldly redefines the Reverso’s cultural and technical footprint. Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a total of nine new references for the Reverso at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025 with its theme on artistry and innovation, weaving heritage with modern sophistication.

The conception of the Reverso was born not in a boardroom but on a polo field in British India, a response to the call of British officers who sought a watch resilient enough for their vigorous sport. This challenge found its answer through César de Trey, who partnered with Jaeger-LeCoultre to create the reversible watch case—engineered by designer René-Alfred Chauvot. Thus, in 1931, a new archetype was born.

Fast forward to today, and the Reverso stands not only as a hallmark of Art Deco design but as a chronicle of enduring innovation. The Reverso has moved fluidly from its sports origin to become a canvas for fine craftsmanship and technical ingenuity.

The new Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds expresses Jaeger-LeCoultre’s enduring design language with refined restraint. Presented in 18k pink gold, it features a golden grained dial whose matte texture contrasts elegantly with the polished case and Milanese link bracelet. The bracelet itself—crafted from a double-layered weave of interlocking links—draws on centuries-old goldsmithing traditions, offering a supple, seamless fit that blends vintage charm with modern sophistication. Applied indexes, faceted Dauphine hands, and a small seconds subdial at six o’clock highlight the linear geometry of the Reverso’s unmistakable form.

Beneath the surface, the manually wound Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 822 powers the watch with a 42-hour power reserve. Shaped to mirror the rectangular case, this in-house movement comprises 108 components, reflecting the Manufacture’s commitment to thoughtful engineering and enduring quality. With its slim 7.56 mm profile and quietly confident aesthetic, the new Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds continues the legacy of the original 1931 model—adaptable, elegant, and resolutely modern.

The latest Reverso Tribute Nonantieme ‘Enamel’ is presented in 18k pink gold with a sleek grey sunray-brushed dial. Signature elements of the Reverso Tribute design—elongated indexes, Dauphine hands, and a chemin de fer minutes track—frame a carefully integrated Grande Date display and moon phase, creating an elegant, symmetrical composition. The visual balance is anchored by a pink gold frame and deep blue accents, setting the tone for the transformation that awaits on the reverse.

Turning the case reveals a celestial tableau: a digitally displayed semi-jumping hour and rotating minutes disc are framed by a starry sky rendered in layered blue enamel and lacquer, embedded with 70 hand-placed pink gold stars. The time indications are arranged in a figure-eight configuration, with a sun-and-moon day-night indicator at the centre. Driven by the in-house Calibre 826, comprising 243 components, the Nonantieme’s dual expressions blend poetic storytelling with mechanical ingenuity—affirming the Reverso as a canvas for horological artistry and invention.

Another reinvention to the Reverso, the Tribute Minute Repeater is powered by the in-house Calibre 953, an entirely integrated movement incorporating seven patented inventions—including crystal gongs, trébuchet hammers, and a silent-interval elimination mechanism. With a 48-hour power reserve, this calibre reflects Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery in acoustic complications, honed since 1870. The Art Deco architecture of the Reverso remains intact, while the updated minute repeater mechanism reaffirms the Maison’s pioneering approach to sound quality and mechanical innovation.

The watch presents dual visual identities: a front dial featuring hand-guilloché barley-seed decoration beneath layers of teal blue grand feu enamel, and a reverse dial that is open-worked to reveal the repeater’s intricate mechanics. Both dials are meticulously crafted in the Métiers Rares atelier/ The redesigned chime activator, discreetly integrated into the case side, complements the elegant lines of the 18k pink gold case, while the adjustable folding buckle, comprising 46 components, enhances ergonomic comfort.

Marking a new milestone for the Reverso collection, the Reverso Tribute Geographic introduces a refined world-time complication to the line for the first time. Powered by the newly developed Calibre 834, this integrated, in-house movement pairs a dual-dial display with a patented Grande Date (CH715152) and a 42-hour power reserve. Offered in steel and 18k pink gold, the watch features distinct front and reverse aesthetics: a sunray dial in blue or chocolate brown with a small seconds counter and date aperture, and a world-time display on the reverse, complete with engraved city names, a rotating 24-hour ring, and a lacquered world map.

Balancing functionality with artistry, the world map is laser-cut and hand-lacquered at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Manufacture, creating a three-dimensional effect of oceans and continents. A discreet pusher hidden between the lugs enables intuitive one-hour adjustments. Completing the experience are Casa Fagliano-designed interchangeable straps, inspired by the Maison’s polo heritage. Whether in steel or pink gold, the Reverso Tribute Geographic encapsulates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legacy of horological invention, seamlessly shaped to the Reverso’s iconic rectangular form.

Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds

The Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds adapts seamlessly—morning to evening, city to city.

For 2025, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils two new interpretations of the Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds, each celebrating the dual-time zone functionality that has become a hallmark of the Duoface line. Presented in steel cases, these models offer a choice between a pure black or vivid blue lacquered front dial, both featuring sunray finishes and small seconds counters. The blue version is achieved through an artisanal process involving 24 layers of hand-applied lacquer, reflecting the Maison’s dedication to refined craft. Both models draw inspiration from the earliest coloured-dial Reversos of the 1930s, echoing the spirit of the original while embracing contemporary elegance.

The reverse dials are newly redesigned with a cleaner, more modern layout anchored by a 24-hour indicator and elongated indexes that echo the case’s signature gadroons. Driven by the hand-wound Calibre 854, the watches display a different time zone on each face, with the second zone adjusted via a discreet slider hidden in the top caseband. Each piece is delivered with two Casa Fagliano-designed interchangeable straps, offered in matching leather and canvas combinations. These additions reinforce the Reverso’s role as both a cultural touchstone and a versatile companion.

A closer look at the multi-axis Gyrotourbillon, surrounded by hand-lacquered detailing

Reinterpreted in 18k white gold for 2025, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 makes its return, bringing renewed emphasis to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s highest levels of artistry and mechanical sophistication. At its heart lies the Gyrotourbillon, the Maison’s fourth-generation multi-axis tourbillon, visually suspended between the dials without a conventional bridge. Comprising 123 components, the tourbillon’s ultra-light titanium cage and peripheral carriage rotate independently, creating a dynamic ballet of mechanical motion. The calibre also powers dual time zones, visible on front and reverse, with a 24-hour indicator on the verso.

The new white gold case is paired with deep blue lacquered decoration, meticulously applied by hand into hollowed recesses across the dial and movement bridges. Each dial offers a distinct visual identity: the front celebrates Art Deco symmetry with fine metal ribs and gradient blue lacquer, while the skeletonised reverse highlights the movement’s architecture through hand-chamfered details and polished lacquer work. With an overall thickness of just 13.63 mm, the piece remains elegantly wearable, while its precision-engineered adjustable folding buckle in solid white gold underscores the Maison’s commitment to both comfort and refinement. The Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 is a compelling convergence of rare craftsmanship and mechanical mastery.

Final Thoughts

The Reverso novelties introduced for 2025 reaffirm Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery in evolving its most iconic design. Each new model represents a dialogue between heritage and innovation—whether through the acoustic complexity of the Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater, the technical advancement of the Reverso Tribute Geographic, or the refined duality of the Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds with its contrasting dials and dual-time zone display. Together, they illustrate how the Reverso remains a dynamic platform for invention, artistry, and enduring design.
