Hublot & Football: A Perfect Match
When Hublot says it loves football, it means it! For the inherently sporty watchmaker, the world of football has been a great avenue to not only reach a broader audience, but also express its vision of watchmaking in a football context like no other.
It all started in 2006 when Hublot signed on as the official watch of the Swiss national football team, creating a special edition Big Bang emblazoned with the “ASF–SFV” Swiss Football Association logo. While a simple variation of the Big Bang, this watch would forever change Hublot’s course.
Not long after, Hublot signed with UEFA to become the Official Timekeeper of the Euro 2008 championship, marking the first time a luxury watch brand entered the world of football.
Later in the year, one of Hublot’s most prolific partnerships took form: it became the partner of arguably the most illustrious football club on earth, Manchester United. The multi-year partnership saw a massive leap not only in Hublot’s presence on the field, but also in the creation of watches dedicated to football, starting with the King Power Red Devil that featured the 45-minute chronograph with central seconds and minutes hands, and actual blades of grass from Old Trafford stadium embedded in the dial’s hour markers.
And while Hublot and Manchester United have parted ways, today the roster of Hublot-sponsored clubs includes FC Bayern München, Juventus F.C. and Paris Saint-Germain; each with their own series of limited edition watches.
In 2010 Hublot once again raised the bar by entering the single greatest sports championship in the world, becoming the Official Timekeeper of the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Four years later, the partnership was renewed for the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where Hublot took the idea of a dedicated soccer watch to new heights with the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chronograph, housing a proprietary movement conceived specifically for timing football matches.
But it’s not just teams and tournaments. Throughout the years, Hublot has also collaborated with legendary players such as Diego Maradona and Pelé, as well as influential managers like José Mourinho and Roy Hodgson, further solidifying its position as the luxury watch brand that loves football.
The Hour Glass is the exclusive retailer of Hublot in South East Asia.
