What To Know About The New Cartier Tank MC
Few watches in the scene can boast of the same iconic status as the Cartier Tank. Today we take a peek at this famous collection and highlight some key features in its new variant, the Tank MC.
The Cartier Tank was one of the first wristwatches to be made
When Louis Cartier first produced it, the Cartier Tank began a revolution in the world of horology. It was one of the first wristwatches to appear on the market – that being a watch meant for wearing on the wrist. Louis Cartier saw that the wristwatch was the future. Before this most people simply carried pocket watches around. His vision remains true till today. It is also the attention to detail and tradition from Cartier that has given the Tank Collection an enviable position that saw it through continual production for more than 100 years.
The New Cartier Tank MC is bigger
Its cuboidal design was a revolution in its time, particularly in light of a growing preference for larger watches. In keeping with today’s trends, Cartier has increased the size of the new Tank MC to 44mm by 34.3mm without compromising on the Tank’s signature design.
The Tank MC is powered by Cartier’s first in-house built self-winding movement
Despite the Tank MC’s classic case style, Cartier has decided to bridge the classic design with a modern touch. The Tank MC watch is powered by the first self-winding movement produced by Cartier Manufacture, the 1904 MC, which was only previously available in the more modern Calibre de Cartier Collection. The movement is manufactured by Cartier’s manufacturing division and bears the trademark characteristics of a 27-jewel calibre and a 48-hour power reserve. The movement ensures accurate time setting through a ceramic regulation system and the use of stop seconds.
It still has the distinctive “rail-track” minute/hour feature
Cartier still pays homage to the Tank collection’s distinguished past. The Cartier Tank MC has an undoubtedly large face and allows for the necessary space to include a smaller seconds display and a date feature on top of its classic and distinctive “rail-track” minute/hour feature. Accompanying the case is a strap made from the finest alligator hide complete with a double folding buckle.
There are a variety of cases to choose from
The case is made of stainless steel. However, there are variants one could opt for, such as the more luxurious 18-karat pink gold version or the skeleton version. There is also a diamond variant for diamond aficionados.
The Cartier Tank MC is the latest update to a long and vaunted tradition. While it bears sufficient resemblance to it’s past, the new configurations offered demonstrates Cartier’s desire for the new Tank MC to strike out on its own and become a new icon in its own right.
