Hublot Launches the Spirit of Big Bang Carbon White Malaysia Limited Edition
Hublot celebrates the home it has built in Malaysia with the Spirit of Big Bang Carbon White, a limited-edition timepiece produced specially for collectors in the country. The 88- piece model is the first Malaysian Edition launched since the Big Bang Merdeka in 2017.
The universe as we know it burst into being from a single point of infinite energy, an initial singularity we call the Big Bang. That same desire for expansion burns through the Big Bang collection, which merges revolutionary design with highly technical materials forged in Hublot’s R&D laboratory. Driving the latter is The Art of Fusion, a determination to push the envelope of innovation that has resulted in world-first materials such as coloured ceramics, coloured sapphires, and precious metal alloys like Magic Gold.
Carbon is another rare and ultra-sophisticated material in the watchmaking world and Hublot is among the few manufactures capable of wielding it with any dexterity. This mastery is exemplified in the Spirit of Big Bang Carbon White, which marks the first time Hublot pairs white frosted carbon with a chronograph
movement. The frosted effect is imbued from white carbon fibre speckled with composite inclusions, and this particular theme was previously seen only in the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve. Hublot has even succeeded in frosting black carbon with gold in the Spirit of Big Bang Carbon Gold Tiger, a ferocious masterpiece released in 2022 to mark the Year of the Tiger.
Meanwhile, white carbon pays appropriate homage to the Year of the Rabbit in 2023. In addition to symbolising the innocence and tenderness of a white rabbit, the colour also represents peace, befitting the multicultural spirit and enduring harmony under which Malaysia has built its colourful society. A 42mm microblasted white frosted carbon case and a matching bezel and caseback with a matte effect form the striking body of the watch. The carbon retains signature characteristics such as exceptional durability and lightweightness, its speckled aesthetic contrasted by H-shaped titanium screws and a satinfinished crown and pushers in titanium and black rubber.
Sapphire crystal protects the HUB4700 Self-winding Skeleton Chronograph, as well as offers an intimate view into the mechanical symphony within. Rhodium-plated hands sweep the periphery to keep time while subdials ringed in jet black allow for readings at a glance. A white rubber strap lined in black continues the monochromatic theme and ends in a black ceramic and titanium deployment buckle.
“Malaysia is a key market for Hublot and The Hour Glass, and our legacy here attests to that. Kuala Lumpur was the first location to debut a standalone point-of-sale in Southeast Asia. More recent investments include the refurbishment of the Hublot boutique at Suria KLCC in 2020 and the official launch of Hublot Pavilion Kuala Lumpur last year. With the sophistication of the market here, we believe the Spirit of Big Bang Carbon White will resonate with local collectors who will value its rarity and inventiveness,” comments Michael Tay, The Hour Glass Group Managing Director.
The Spirit of Big Bang Carbon White is waterproof to 100m and resides in a beautiful presentation case. Only 88 individual-numbered pieces were produced to ensure only the most serious connoisseurs can add them to their collections. The model will be launched exclusively at Hublot boutiques in Suria KLCC, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and The Hour Glass Gurney Plaza Penang, and at The Hour Glass boutiques across Malaysia.
