Omega
Founded in 1848
OMEGA was founded in 1848 and is a company of the Swatch Group, the world’s leading watch manufacturer. For over 160 years, the brand has been synonymous with excellence, innovation and precision. Faithful to its original pioneering spirit, OMEGA continues to make technical and watchmaking history with innovation in areas as diverse as sports timing, precision technology and design – innovations that led to the conquest of ocean depths and space. Through numerous partnership agreements at the top level of competition in various sporting disciplines such as golf, bobsleigh, yachting, athletics and swimming, OMEGA has, for many years, actively supported the ideal of perfection and precision.
We took our name from an 1894 calibre, the Omega, a word reflecting remarkable accomplishment. More than 120 years later, we have achieved another industry-defining breakthrough: the Master Chronometer certification. Only after passing rigorous tests, approved by METAS and undertaken at our cutting-edge building, can a watch earn the title.
To earn the name Master Chronometer, the finished watch, whose movement is a COSC chronometer, passes tests approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) that replicate real-life wearing conditions and demonstrate resistance to water and magnetic fields.
The OMEGA Speedmaster has been the choice of astronauts and space agencies for more than half a century. In fact, it has been associated with some of humankind’s greatest extra-terrestrial adventures and has been one of the most famous chronographs in the world ever since it became the first watch worn on the Moon in July of 1969.
On 28 occasions since 1932, OMEGA has fulfilled the role of Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games. More recently, we have also taken on the same timekeeping duties at the Paralympic Games. In all events, from the start line to the finish, we are proud to be in charge of every second in every event. What a challenge. What an honour!
