5 Slim Watches For Gents
A month back we discussed some of the best slim tourbillons – Thin is in, five slimmest tourbillon watches for gents. We reckon though that not every occasion calls for such an extravagance. So without further ado, here are five choicely slim three-hand watches for gentlemen:
Extra-flat Ballon Bleu de Cartier
Having been introduced about 10 years ago, the Ballon Bleu collection is relatively young in the Cartier catalogue but has already taken aficionados by storm with its delightful curves. The Extra-Flat is an interesting variant that sits closer to the wrist than the standard, almost pebble-shaped version. Naturally, it retains the trademark sapphire cabochon on the crown that gives rise to the name of the range.
The brand may be well known for its tourbillon with three golden bridges, but it has an equally illustrious history as an expert movement maker. One of its feats was the creation of a high-frequency calibre in 1966, the year after which this collection is named. The latest model is the first time the 1966 is available in stainless steel. Despite this unembellished material, its movement remains the same high-quality one found in pricier, precious metal versions.
Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5227G-010
A very handsome timepiece suitable for the most formal of black-tie events. Sporting a stark monochromatic mien with its sable lacquered dial, white gold case and shiny black alligator leather strap, the watch adds to the existing yellow, white and rose gold with ivory lacquered dial versions introduced in 2013. The sapphire-crystal display back is protected by a dust cover with an invisible hinge.
Piaget Altiplano Gold Bracelet
Gold bracelets are available for the first time in an Altiplano – Piaget’s ultra-thin collection. They comprise six new references of 34mm and 38mm sizes, variedly in white or pink gold with polished or gem-set bezels. Most attention would be drawn towards the bracelet and case, but the elegant dial deserves some mention, with its slim double or single baton-style hour-markers swept over by slender hands.
Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 81180
It’s all about clean design in this classic Vacheron piece, inspired by the original of 1957. Take the beautiful “pearls” that form the markers in the minute circle; or the subtly domed dial; or even the lovely colour combination of a pink gold case with a slate-hued opaline dial. The movement is of course in-house, with 40 hours of power reserve.
