Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic Now Available In 42mm

Hublot first released the provocative Big Bang Unico Red Magic back in 2018. At 45mm and in one of the most vibrant colours available, the Big Bang Unico Red Magic was undoubtedly the talk of the town when it first launched and took home the spot of being the first watch to use red ceramic as a case material.

Housing Hublot’s arguably most iconic calibre – the Unico movement – the Big Bang Unico Red Magic was designed to be a striking piece not just for its vividness, but the technical frontiers it managed to push. It has been released as a limited edition of 500 pieces worldwide.

 

 

Reinventing The Unico Movement

The new Big Bang Unico Red Magic in 42mm is equipped with the new UNICO 2 in-house calibre. Indeed Hublot has created a more versatile version of its signature UNICO movement to fit into smaller cases and suit smaller wrists. The UNICO 2 calibre is flatter than the original UNICO yet it boasts a 72-hour power reserve and it made of 354 components.

Exceptionally noteworthy is how the UNICO 2 manages to encapsulate all the key features of the original UNICO movement despite its reduction in size. The chronograph mechanism’s column-wheel is still visible and on the dial side of the movement, something of a rarity in haute horlogerie. The power reserve remains at 72 hours and the double clutch mechanism, so quintessential to the Big Bang UNICO has also been retained.

The Power Of Red

The Big Bang UNICO Red Magic is undoubtedly an ultra-resilient ceramic watch. With its 42 mm case and bezel made with Hublot’s patented red ceramic, it boasts a polished finish that won’t fade and hardly even scratches. The flange, indexes, minute and seconds counters, Arabic numerals and hands all work together aesthetically to complement this hue, adorned in the same red to highlight the contrast with the UNICO 2 movement and its column wheel, visible on the dial side through the sapphire crystal. This look is completed with a lined structured red rubber strap.
