An Introduction To The Rolex Cellini Collection
Rolex’s Oyster collection has spawned so many different sub-collections, models and variants that its iconic shape and name are what come to mind when recalling the eminent brand. But it is time we divert our attentions to a lesser-known but equally historic family: the Cellini. Now that it’s been redesigned with three new 39mm models in 18k white or Everose gold, let’s get reacquainted with Rolex’s classic dress watches.
Rolex Cellini Time
The most basic of the three, the Rolex Cellini Time is a simple three-hand model that most clearly shows the slick new Cellini identity. Its double bezel – fluted and domed – encircles a black or white lacquered dial topped with gold appliques for hour markers. The movement, like the ones in the other two models, is a self-winding COSC-certified chronometer with a blue parachrom hairspring with Breguet overcoil and a power reserve of 48 hours.
Rolex Cellini Date
The dial design gets kicked up a notch in the Rolex Cellini Date with a black or silver dial decorated with a “Rayon flammé de la gloire” guilloché motif. The date is displayed via a sub dial at 3 o’clock – an elegant alternative to the more commonly seen cut-out window with numerals. The slimmer profile and tapered lugs of these new Cellini timepieces live up to its tuxedo-targeting image.
Rolex Cellini Dual Time
The Rolex Cellini Dual Time also boasts a guilloché face with a sub dial, except that the latter is now placed at 6 o’clock and provides a second time zone. This dual time function happens to be a first for the brand, which has always tended toward the GMT complication in other models. As it is presented in a 12-hour format, a day/night indicator in the form of a sun and moon is incorporated into the sub dial at 9 o’clock.
The Hour Glass is a proud retailer of the Rolex Cellini Collection.
