NOMOS GLASHÜTTE DEBUTS IN MALAYSIA

Watchmaking aficionados will be thrilled to learn that NOMOS Glashütte’s iconic timepieces are now available in Malaysia. The Saxon watchmaker is celebrated for its contemporary yet timeless aesthetics, which unite the purity of traditional horological expressions with cutting-edge modern design.

Founded by Roland Schwertner in 1990, NOMOS Glashütte is Germany’s largest manufacturer of mechanical timepieces today. Its minimalist approach draws from the Bauhaus ideal that form should follow function and holds design and purpose in equilibrium.

This principle drives each of its 13 model families, from classics like the flagship Tangente and angular Tetra to the nautically-inspired Ahoy and nifty speedster Autobahn. It’s a style the watchmaker wears well — NOMOS has secured over 150 design awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), the equivalent of the Oscars in horological design.

The clean dials and streamlined proportions belie a wealth of watchmaking mastery within. NOMOS Glashütte owns multiple patents across its 11 calibres, including patents for its in-house date mechanism, power reserve display and the proprietary NOMOS swing system escapement. Complications are nestled within distinctive movements, often identified by a rhodium-plated Glashütte three-quarter plate adorned with Glashütte ribbing and NOMOS perlage.

The brand’s expansion in Southeast Asia suggests it has utmost confidence in its reception here, where an increasingly mature regional market is ready to embrace a broader language of luxury.

After all, NOMOS Glashütte eschews the formality of traditional luxury to reflect the more relaxed attitudes of this era without compromising on horological integrity. Its automatic and hand-wound timepieces address a range of tastes, sizes, and price points, from entry-level families like the graduate’s choice Campus to luxurious lines such as the Lux and Lambda.

“Our partnership with The Hour Glass continues to grow from strength to strength and past collaborations between have affirmed that our values are aligned. We see Malaysia as a nexus for watchmaking appreciation in Southeast Asia and are excited to explore this market with The Hour Glass in the years to come.”

— NOMOS Glashütte CEO Uwe Ahrendt

Collectors and the curious alike will be able to get up close and personal with NOMOS Glashütte’s timepieces from today onwards. The watchmaker’s best-selling and latest models will be available at Watches of Switzerland in The Gardens Mall.
