Harry Winston introduces the Premier Precious Micromosaic Automatic 36mm (Ref: PRNAHM36RR026). Featuring an 18K rose gold case with diamond-set lugs, diamond-set bezel (all brilliant-cut) and a handmade micromosaic glass and diamond dial in shades of red, pink and white.

Housing the self-winding mechanical Calibre HW2008, with a frequency of 4Hz, power-reserve of 72 hours and water-resistance of 30 metres (3 bar). This superbly decorated movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition case-back and features a range of decorative techniques, including: an 18K rose gold skeletonised rotor, circular Côtes de Genève, rhodium plating and circular graining finishing.

Harry Winston

Born in 1896, it seemed destined that Harry Winston would work in jewellery. The son of jeweller, Harry spent most of his childhood surrounded by gems; in 1908 – at just 12 years old – Harry bought a 2-ct. emerald in a pawn shop for 25 cents, selling it two days later for $800! Six years after going into business, Harry got his first big break,  acquiring Arabella Huntington’s prized jewellery collection in 1926. By 1952 Harry Winston owned the world’s second largest collection of historic jewels, surpassed only by that of the British Royal Family.

Harry Winston was more than just a collector. After founding his eponymously named brand in 1932, Harry cemented his reputation as the “King of Diamonds” and the “Jeweller to the Stars”.  The House of Harry Winston pioneered new gem-setting trends and techniques – often drawing inspiration from the geometry of nature. One such technique is called ‘clustering’, in which individual diamonds, not the metal settings, would dictate the jewellery design, therefore maximising the brilliance of each individual gemstone. This was a revolutionary concept at the time  and would inspire the House’s designers for years to come.

Premier Precious Micromosaic

The Premier Precious Micromosaic belongs to Harry Winston’s Métiers d’Art collection. Watches in this extraordinary collection highlight traditional techniques such as marquetry and plumasserie (feather art) to brilliant effect. For the latest chapter in the collection, Harry Winston decided to draw attention to the historic city of Ravenna, Italy – known worldwide for its mosaics.

An ancient art, mosaics are made from small pieces of coloured glass, ceramic, stone or other materials known collectively as tesserae. The tesserae are then applied on an adhesive surface to create a design. Widely used in Ancient Greece and Rome, the art of mosaic flourished under the Byzantine Empire. Ravenna, the capital city of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, and then Byzantine Italy through the 8th century, took the art of mosaic to unprecedented levels, creating masterpieces for the local walls and ceilings of the early Christian monuments.

On the red, pink and white variant, a discreet floral motif is found on the upper left-hand area of the dial – reminiscent of a Japanese cherry blossom. Looking closely, triangular-shaped compartments, punctuated with 14 brilliant-cut diamonds, house an even smaller setting of glass rhomboids and triangles. The larger rose gold triangles on the dial are defined by thin strips of colored glass, functioning like the individual cells used in cloisonné enameling.

The Premier Precious Micromosaic Automatic 36mm is available in four dial configuarions (in 18-karat white and 18-karat rose gold cases): Blue (PRNAHM36WW024), Turquoise (PRNAHM36WW025), Brown (PRNAHM36RR025) and Red (PRNAHM36RR026). Limited to 30 pieces for each version. The Red variant (pictured above) comes on a raspberry pearl alligator leather strap and has a 18K rose gold ardillon buckle set with 17 brilliant-cut diamonds.
