3 Technological Feats Birthed From Hublot’s “Art Of Fusion” Philosophy
If you are an ardent fan of Hublot fine timepieces, you would be well-acquainted with Hublot’s philosophy of the “Art of Fusion”. For those who are new, the “Art of Fusion” is Hublot’s core philosophy and concept of watchmaking, the combination of seemingly opposite and impossible materials creating a brilliant juxtaposition of elements in fine timepieces. This philosophy encapsulates every watchmaking process in Hublot from the birth of a design, to manufacturing and research and development. In this article, we list 3 technological feats birthed from Hublot’s “Art of Fusion” philosophy, highlighting the lengths this contemporary brand goes in order to push the boundaries of engineering and science to its limits.
1. The MP-05 “LaFerrari” model
This watch may seem tough or even impossible to power with its complicated and intricate movements, yet it defied this stereotype and broke the world record for possessing a 50-day power reserve. This means that the watch can run for 1,200 hours without having to be wound, an incredible feat made possible by its eleven barrels. This was made possible by Hublot’s unique way of inter departmental collaboration, all the different departments together and creating a laboratory of ideas, thereafter fusing these ideas and making them reality.
2. Magic Gold
Magic Gold, which is the world’s only scratch-resistant gold, certified as 18K and was developed by Hublot. It is the hardest Gold in the world, and by some margin: it can only be successfully machined using diamond. Its hardness of almost 1000 Vickers eliminates the traditional weak point of gold and its alloys.
Magic Gold is created by injecting 24k gold alloyed with 3% molten liquid under very high pressure and temperature with an inert gas into a pre-formed boron carbide molds. This metal fills the ceramic pores and creates a “fusion” between the two materials producing Magic Gold.
3. Hublonium
Hublonium is a proprietary alloy created by Hublot. It is a unique metal alloy combining primarily magnesium and aluminium. The aluminium and magnesium alloys provide excellent combinations of strength and corrosion resistance. The benefits of Hublonium are ideal for watchmaking: it is remarkably light and possesses good mechanical properties.
