Unveiling Ulysse Nardin’s Enameling Artistry Collections

Enameling Process

Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin, one of the most distinguished and innovative names in the world of horology, pays homage to the ancient art of enameling with two new exquisite timepieces – the Classico Dragon and the HMS Caesar Classico Cloisonne. A pioneer in utilizing novel materials and driving fresh design sensibilities, enameling is a prominent feature in the brand’s collections over the past 25 years.A timely launch for the auspicious year of Dragon in 2012, the new Classico Enamel Champleve Dragon is an explosion of colours that exude a fiery spirit, with its bright orange and yellow dragon leaping out at you from the enamel champleve special blue dial that is a distinctive signature of the brand. Available in 88 pieces, the 40mm beauty comes in both 18-karat white gold and rose gold options. The self-winding UN-815 movement can be viewed through the sapphire crystal exhibition window in the case back, with an approximate 42-hour power reserve and COSC certified chronometer.Classico Dragon

The second timepiece that is a fine display of Ulysse Nardin’s enameling expertise is the HMS Caesar Classico Cloisonne. A tribute to the noble Royal Navy seafarer, HMS Caesar Classico Cloisonne embodies the lively spirit and history of this magnificent vessel, with its regal red flag drawing the attention to view the cloisonne dial’s intricacy. With a 40mm enamel dial, a self-winding movement and a power reserve of around 42 hours, this classic piece (available in 30 pieces in 18-karat white and rose gold) is a true collector’s item – a strong symbol of triumph and honour.

Each dial is an exceptional creation, a wearable art piece forged from a refined decorative technique that requires the dedication of a master craftsman. Due to it complex and time-consuming forging process, enamel watches fell into near oblivion since the 1950’s, and only top watch makers of today such as Ulysse Nardin are able to produce the works in limited quantities.

To mark its commitment to revive the lost craftsmanship of enamel works, Ulysse Nardin has also recently acquired Donze Cadrans SA, the specialist luxury watch Manufacture dial enameller, to maintain its strategy of continuity and vertical production while reflecting the brand’s heritage and tradition.
