Launch of the Premier at Breitling’s First Summit

Breitling Summit

Earlier this year Breitling announced its commitment towards Baselworld, however that hasn’t stopped the brand from holding its own summit of sorts. Called the Breitling Summit, it was the first of such events to be held under the leadership of Georges Kern. And if this Summit is any indication to go by, it’s likely we’ll be seeing more in years to come. Breitling Summit London on October 22, 2018 in London, England. Breitling appropriately chose its first Summit to launch the Premier collection; ‘premiere’ being French for first. Within the collection are four watches: two chronographs, one sporting a day & date complication and a time only watch. All available in different dial and strap variations.

Then there’s the Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Bentley British Racing Green, sporting a vivid green sunburst dial, black sub-dials and a metallic Breitling logo. Unveiled to coincide with the announcement that Breitling and Bentley are partnering up again. And the timing couldn’t be better. Next year Bentley will be kicking off celebrations for its 100th anniversary and it’s likely we’ll be seeing some special watches coming out of this renewed partnership. With Bentley Motors CEO Adrian Hallmark intent on celebrating their long and storied past, he was quoted as saying:  “As we approach our centenary year, we will, of course, be celebrating our past, but, more importantly, we will be looking toward the future with a passion for innovation”.

Premier B01 Chronograph 42

The Premier B01 Chronograph 42 is as the name suggests. Its 42 mm stainless steel case houses Breitling’s Manufacture Caliber 01; a proper self-winding, chronometer-certified chronograph with an impressive power reserve of 70 hours. Available with either a dark blue or silver dial, both with contrasting black sub-dials at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions.

Premier Chronograph 42

Compared to the Premier B01 Chronograph 42, the most readily distinguishable feature of the Premier Chronograph 42 is the addition of a seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and white tachymeter ring. Pushing the chronograph minute counter sub-dial up to 12 o’clock, whilst the hour sub-dial is at 6 – which also includes a neatly integrated date window. In comparison to the Premier Automatic 40, these are still visually complex watches. However, as a result of its pared back use of colour and focus on legibility, these dials feel balanced.Busy but not intimidating.

The Premier Chronograph 42 features a 42 mm stainless steel case and is available with either a blue or a black dial and comes on either an alligator leather, a nubuck strap with white stitching or a stainless-steel bracelet.

Premier Automatic Day & Date 40

Available with silver and black dials, the Premier Automatic Day & Date 40 features a day aperture at 12 and a framed date window at 6. Both variants feature gold central hour, minutes, and second hands giving these watches an air of sophistication. Measuring in a 40 mm in diameter and 11.4 mm high, the Premier Automatic Day & Date feels the most dressy of all the Premier variants. Ticking inside, calibre 45, an automatic chronometer movement with 38 hours in the tank.

Premier Automatic 40

Measuring in at 40 mm, the Premier Automatic 40 is the most subdued of the Premier collection.  Its modest proportions and understated dial display are offset by a gold vintage Breitling “B” logo at 12 o’ clock. There’s also a cambered sapphire crystal which is used to great effect; its curved edges distorting the white minute track when viewed from the side.
