Baselworld 2015: RJ-Romain Jerome Novelties Highlights

Subcraft
The Subcraft is RJ-Romain Jerome’s 2015 signature collection featuring the dynamic collaboration of famous watch designer Mr Alain Silberstein and Mr Manuel Emch, CEO of RJ-Romain Jerome. The Subcraft is the result of two contemporary visionaries who share the same inspiration for design. Friends for the past 15 years, Manuel Emch and Alain Silberstein have finally decided to lay down their ideas and develop together the Subcraft. Inspired by “fluid design”, the Subcraft reflects the absence of ornamentation and brings out the harmony that is found between form and function. This aerodynamic timepiece is also a representation of shapes found in Nature, for example – the majestic dance of a Manta Ray. Devoid of any straight lines, this time giving sculpture allows this futuristic concept to come to life with an innovative and highly sophisticated mechanism. Meticulously crafted in titanium or black PVD-coated titanium case, the case houses an ingenious mechanical movement created for RJ-Romain Jerome by Agenhor.

The mechanical movement is the result of Manuel Emch and Jean-Marc Wiederrecht’s collaboration, combining four different complications – lateral, linear, jumping and retrograde – and represents one of the most complication indications of time ever made to date. The hour display is read laterally, under a cambered glass, highlighting the curves of the case to perfection. The minute display has been placed on the lid of the watch, under a black sphere glass mirroring the fluid design of the Subcraft. The minute counter has been traced in white featuring sporty designed numerals. The new Subcraft plays with the aesthetic of the brand’s iconic Spacecraft, with a new fluid look that will transport you on another RJ-Romain Jerome quest.

Steampunk Tourbillon
Paying tribute to the Industrial Revolution, the Steampunk Tourbillon Gunmetal shares the brand’s bold and provocative spirit and draws inspiration from the raw energy that emanates from machines and engines from the early 20th century. The back-PVD case and lugs behold a 50mm Gunmetal steel bezel, hand-brushed for a unique finish. Infused with the Steampunk’s aesthetic, the complex dial is the result of a collision between an imaginary retro-futuristic world and technical innovation. The mechanical flying tourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock is designed in the shape of an anchor.

Skylab 48
Inspired by NASA’s first space station, the Skylab timepiece is a testimony to Man’s technical achievements. For 2015, the design of the iconic Skylab timepiece has evolved and is now presented in a 48mm case. Reminding us of the complex structure of the original space station, the dial features a complex five layered skeleton which sllows a perfect view of the mechanical movement. The Skylab 48 stays true to the Moon-DNA collection with a Speed Metal model infused with Apollo 11 spacecraft steel inside the bezel whilst the red gold model evokes the brightness of a stellar system visible for a spaceship’s porthole. The Skylab is the result of a thoughtfully crafted timepiece that combines a complex mechanism with an innovative design.
