Launched in 1945, it was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window at 3 o’clock on the dial, and consolidated all the major innovations that Rolex had contributed to the modern wristwatch until then.
In the earliest models of the Datejust, the date would begin to change hours before its midnight rendezvous. In 1955, the date-change mechanism was adapted to operate instantaneously and the date aperture was enhanced with a Cyclops lens, magnifying the date for easy reading.

The new Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 in a yellow Rolesor version, introduced in 2019, pairs an olive green, sunray-finish dial with 18 ct yellow gold hands and Roman numerals – the VI set with 11 diamonds. The light reflections on the case sides and lugs highlight the elegant profile of the 31 mm Oyster case, which is fitted with a fluted bezel.
