Aston Martin & TAG Heuer’s Car-Watch Combo

Cars & Watches

Just one year after forming their partnership, Tag Heuer and Aston Martin have unveiled the DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02. Limited to 50, each DBS Superleggera will come with a complimentary DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02 wristwatch.

At face value, cars and watches look nothing alike. Cars move people around and watches make sure people get to where they’re being moved to, on time. It’s almost a disrespectfully simplistic dichotomy, that glosses over all the reasons why we like either. Sure, cars are a method of transportation and watches, with a history rooted in the pursuit for timekeeping precision, tell us whether it’s time for lunch or time for brunch.

But looking at either as a purely utilitarian tool for doing something, totally misses the point. This isn’t news to most of you, but car enthusiasts and watch enthusiasts (there’s a lot of us in both camps) like their machines not for what they do, but how they do it. These are mechanical pieces of art, powered by gears, screws and magic.

When you think about it, the main difference between the two is that you sit in one and have the other one strapped to your wrist.

Which brings us back to this collaboration between Tag Heuer and Aston Martin. Normally with watches, the watch takes inspiration from the car and is designed accordingly. In this case, the lines are a little more blurred. Style elements found on the car are found on the watch and vice-versa. Both the DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02 and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera sport dark colour schemes with red flourishes.

DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02

Tag Heuer’s 45 mm DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02 case is made of forged carbon fibre and black DLC case and lugs. Based on the modular Carrera, this limited edition variant features a semi-openworked hexagonal cut-out dial mimicking the appearance of the grille found on the DBS. Sapphire crystal is found on both the front and the back. The Carrera Heuer 02 sits on a black rubber strap with leather inlay and red stitching. Matching the embossed leather found in the Aston Martin.

DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02 is powered by a Calibre HEUER 02 Automatic manufacture movement, with an integrated automatic chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch. Flip the watch over and you’ll see the DBS logo transferred onto the sapphire exhibition window, also revealing a gold-plated rotor, reminiscent of a wheel rim.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is presented in Monaco Black paint with a satin black tinted carbon fibre roof, mirrors, vents, louvres, splitter and spoiler. The bespoke specification includes satin black 21” twin spoke wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero tyres with a red accent to complement the red brake callipers. Aside from the characteristically TAG colour scheme, a more obvious sign of the brand’s collaboration can be seen front on, with a prominently displayed TAG Heuer fender badge.

Inside, the DBS boasts pure black leather and alcantra seats with red stitching and bespoke TAG Heuer quilting, each displaying the TAG Heuer logo, and carbon fibre and dark chrome has been used throughout to accentuate the clean lines of the cockpit.

Each of the 50 cars inspected personally by Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, Andy Palmer, before leaving the factory. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is priced at £295,000.
