How The Speedmaster Became The Moonwatch
Captain Walter M. (“Wally”) Schirra pictured above (centre) was the first astronaut to wear an Omega Speedmaster chronograph during spaceflight (wearing Omega Reference No. CK2998). After becoming flight-qualified by NASA it would make history strapped to the wrist of Buzz Aldrin as he stepped foot on the Moon. In that very moment, on the 20th of July 1969, the ‘Moonwatch’ was born.
