Panerai’s latest novelties at Watches and Wonders 2026 mark a confident return to the Maison’s origins, where purpose-driven engineering shaped instruments for the Italian Navy. At the heart of the new Luminor collection is a clear philosophy: heritage informs design, while performance defines relevance.

Across four key references, Panerai refines its historic design language through contemporary execution, blending archival cues with practical enhancements such as improved ergonomics, long power reserves, and resilient materials. Panerai’s latest novelties reaffirm its enduring connection to military precision and functional design, expressed through four new Luminor references.

The PAM01731 introduces a warm, vintage-inspired tobacco dial, while its left-handed sibling, PAM01732, offers a distinctive Destro configuration with a contemporary blue dial. The PAM01733 extends performance with an eight-day power reserve housed in a Brunito steel case, and the PAM01735 makes a bold statement with its larger 47 mm proportions rooted in historic models.

Together, these releases present a cohesive vision of Panerai’s past and present, where heritage informs every detail and functionality remains paramount.

The Luminor PAM01731 and its left-handed counterpart, the PAM01732 Destro, represent a thoughtful reinterpretation of Panerai’s historic case architecture. Inspired by the reference 6152/1 from the 1960s, both models introduce a newly scaled 44 mm cushion case that preserves the original’s proportions while enhancing wearability. The signature crown-protecting bridge remains central to the design, reinforcing the collection’s unmistakable identity while ensuring robustness in everyday use.

The PAM01731 features a richly textured tobacco dial, its gradient effect subtly transitioning towards the edges to evoke the patina of vintage pieces aged by time and exposure. This is complemented by beige Super-LumiNova, which enhances legibility while reinforcing its retro character. In contrast, the PAM01732 adopts a matte blue dial paired with a Destro configuration, with the crown positioned on the left. Originally developed for military divers, this layout allowed greater comfort and freedom of movement when worn on the right wrist, and today offers both functional and aesthetic distinction.

Both references retain the classic sandwich dial construction, a hallmark of Panerai design that ensures depth and clarity in low-light conditions. Powering the watches is the hand-wound P.6000 calibre, delivering a reliable three-day power reserve. With its straightforward architecture and emphasis on durability, the movement aligns with Panerai’s tool watch ethos, favouring practicality and resilience over unnecessary complexity.

The Luminor 8 Giorni PAM01733 advances Panerai’s longstanding focus on extended autonomy. Equipped with the hand-wound P.5000 calibre, it delivers an impressive eight-day power reserve; a signature capability rooted in the brand’s historical need for reliability during prolonged missions. This extended reserve is achieved through twin barrels, allowing the movement to maintain consistent performance over an extended period without frequent winding.

Finished in Brunito steel, the case carries a deliberately aged aesthetic, lending the watch a utilitarian character that aligns with its military inspiration. The burnished treatment gives each piece a subtly individual appearance, reinforcing the sense of authenticity associated with vintage instruments. The dial remains clean and highly legible, with luminous markers and numerals ensuring optimal visibility in low-light conditions — a defining requirement of Panerai’s original naval watches.

A solid caseback further emphasises the model’s tool watch credentials, prioritising durability over exhibition. Altogether, the PAM01733 combines technical endurance with a strong historical narrative, offering a watch that is both functional and evocative of Panerai’s past.

Luminor PAM01735

The Luminor PAM01735 stands apart with its larger 47 mm case, echoing the bold dimensions that have long defined Panerai’s presence on the wrist. Drawing inspiration from early military-issued references, its imposing size reinforces both legibility and wrist presence, staying true to the brand’s origins as a supplier of professional instruments.

The dial design remains intentionally pared back, allowing the essential timekeeping functions to take precedence. Large Arabic numerals and indices, combined with the signature sandwich construction, ensure clarity at a glance. This focus on readability reflects Panerai’s commitment to purpose-driven design, where every element serves a functional role.

Beyond its historical cues, the PAM01735 benefits from contemporary construction techniques that enhance durability and comfort despite its scale. The case proportions have been carefully refined to sit more securely on the wrist, demonstrating Panerai’s ongoing attention to ergonomics. In this reference, Panerai embraces its boldest expression of the Luminor, offering a watch that is unapologetically rooted in its heritage while adapted for modern-day wear.

A Cohesive Vision of Heritage and Performance

Taken together, these novelties highlight Panerai’s renewed focus on its core identity. The collection revisits defining elements — from the iconic crown-protecting bridge to sandwich dials and hand-wound calibres — while integrating modern advancements in materials and movement design.

Rather than pursuing radical reinvention, Panerai refines what it does best. The result is a cohesive family of watches that honours its naval heritage while delivering the reliability and functionality expected today.
